The_History_Man: A school that values anti-authoritarianism feels an increasing need to discipline pupils because of the new parenting trend towards overprotecting children. A S Neill said that there was no such thing as problem children, only "problem parents" and a "problem humanity".

This, of course, begs the question, what is an appropriate parenting style?

SIrHenry@RawlinsonEN: It is living proof that liberal parenting does not work, and that firm, authoritarian discipline is necessary, backed by corporal punishment. Summerhill is now reaping what it, and our liberal society since the 1960s has sown.
