Simon Baker was the Year 6 teacher at Graiseley primary, Wolverhampton, last year and is taking Y6 this year. But though the year group will have the same teacher, the school’s test results are expected to fall because the pupils taking the tests are very different. This year, 71 per cent of 11-year-olds at Graiseley got level 4 in English and 67 per cent did so in maths.
But next summer, only 43 per cent of pupils are expected to achieve level 4 in English and maths because the number of children with special educational needs is higher.
Wendy Briscoe, head, said: “We are challenged by the authority, which is the right relationship to have, but we predict scores on the knowledge we have of our pupils.”
