There's never a last tango

EDITH Dawson, an 89-year-old International Dance Teachers' Association examiner, wanted to keep in step with technology as well as ballroom dancing, so she bought a computer.

Mrs Dawson joined a computer literacy course with Manchester Adult Education Service, and so impressed her tutor, Irene Kelly, that she was nominated for the north-west senior learner of the year award run by NIACE, he national organisation for adult learning, which she then won.

But on her way to receive the award at London's Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, she fell and dislocated her shoulder.

NIACE has promised her a video of the event she missed and a place at the top table for next year. Ms Kelly sees her as an inspiration to others. "She shows it's never to late to learn."
