‘For a high-quality British education, try leaving the country’ - The Council of British International Schools.Parents who saw an announcement this week by the Council of British International Schools may have been tempted to book plane tickets for their children.

The association represents 58 British international schools in 27 other countries, from Argentina to Yemen. It surveyed its schools to see how its GCSE results compared with those at home. “The results were impressive,” it said. Of the schools that responded, the proportion getting five A-star to C grades was 87 per cent, which the association pointed out was above the national average of 61.5 per cent.

The hitch for the association is that all its members are independent schools and that it is affiliated to the Independent Schools Council. And what was the figure for ISC schools in the UK? A significantly more impressive 95 per cent.

Eager parents may now wish to cancel those flights.
