Educational software company New Media is donating its heart to Science Year, according to its website. Its heart is a simulation that graphically illustrates the working of the most tireless organ in our bodies and it is now available at www.new-media.co.uk for teachers to use free.

Multimedia Science School, the CD-based resource from which the heart is taken, has been updated to include a model of the kidney. A new 16-18 edition for older pupils is launched this month and “brings to life invisible and industrial concepts that are difficult to replicate in the classroom”.

Other new products include Earth and the Sun, which explores day, night and the seasons with a 3D, interactive model aimed at ages seven to 14, and a website that lets pupils interpret live data and follow Mars Express as it hurtles towards the red planet.
