The TES Time To Care campaign was launched in January this year. It aimed to secure better opportunities for the 65,000 children in care. The campaign focused on educational underachievement as 57 per cent of children in care leave without a single GCSE. In May, the Time To Care six-point manifesto was published.
It called for foster carers to be paid to support young people until the age of 21, as well as for resources to provide extra tuition and school support for looked-after children.
Last month several of these demands were realised in Care Matters, a government green paper. Consultation on this green paper will close on January 15, 2007.
