Both reports highlight the positive impact that GNVQs are beginning to have, and the need to sustain the progress in developing the qualification so that we “do not fail our young people” (Chris Woodhead, The Sunday Times, October 30).
The main focus of concern in the reports is on the shortcomings and lack of rigour in the quality assurance processes implemented by the National Council for Vocational Qualifications and the award bodies for the validation of the qualification. This is a new qualification which needs time to address these issues through a calm and considered approach. We owe no less to our GNVQ students.
