Tired and tested

You report the “serious changes for maths still in prospect”, discussing “five learning pathways”, maths for the citizen and vocationally-oriented courses (TES, September 26). All these proposals follow the same tired path pursued by earlier reforms, including the national curriculum, changes to GCSE exams and the numeracy strategy. And they are all irrelevant.

The lesson should be: do not try to make maths easier, exciting or fun.

Just teach it properly. Then students will enjoy it.
