The latest Ofsted figures are likely to show a fall in the number of “good” or “outstanding” colleges from 71 per cent last year to 65 per cent. But Melanie Hunt, director of learning and skills at Ofsted, said the snapshot figure was not representative, and over a four-year period there had been a steady increase from a base of 48 per cent receiving the top rating in 2005.
