Tough targets

ON hearing the news of Estelle Morris's resignation, the feeling of disappointment hangs over me. She says that she is "good, but not good enough".

How common is that feeling throughout the teaching profession with unrealistic targets, teachers leaving the profession through increasing workload and pressures, and more and more new initiatives and legislation being introduced?

What a shame that a woman, whose career had escalated to such heights, felt she had to resign because she was unable to achieve unattainable expectations. This so represents the teaching profession.
