There are always upsides and downsides to technological advances and social change. TV is generally beneficial but, of course, children can watch too much. They may eat more junk food but more of them have access to a greater variety of good food than ever before. Most of the devastating illnesses of childhood are a thing of the past thanks to advances in medicine.
Family life has changed. The only question is: how do we teach in a way which engages all children as they are today, not how we would like them to be.
Using sensational terms such as "toxic childhood" is not a good place to start.
