THE European Commission has banned PVC teething toys containing “phthalates” after scientists said the chemicals could cause liver and kidney damage.

Campaigners want the ban extended to all toys as they say research shows that children aged between six and 12 months suck and chew toys not intended for the mouth for even longer than dummies or teethers.
