Last year Channel 4‘s Bricking It series followed 10 teenagers as they attempted to transform a disused warehouse into a luxury apartment in six months. During the programme experts in plastering, electrics, plumbing, carpentry, painting and decorating, headed by former carpenter Dr Philip Aston, gave help and support to the project. For any students interested in a career in the construction trade, the Bricking It website has advice about how to go about it. As well as information about the task set on the programme, there is a list of job profiles to help decide which area to specialise in, details about apprenticeships and a search page for finding courses covering all parts of the industry across the UK. Profiles of the experts from the series, documenting how they made their way into construction, provide inspiration and the Talking Points section gives examples of the issues the trainees experienced, with guidance on how to overcome them. The series will be repeated in March.
