Trainees need professional help

Middlesex University had the foresight to hire a maths expert to help its non-maths postgraduate certificate in education students through the numeracy skills test.

It's obvious that all teacher-training providers should do likewise. As the person hired to deliver the help mentioned above, I find it incredible that people are writing in slating students for complaining about the test.

The test, with most questins relating to tables and diagrams of educational data, was devised by bureaucrats and so clarity is not its virtue. This, combined with the fact that the test is computerised and contains concepts not learned at secondary level, makes it a daunting task. Especially more so for mature students being tempted into the profession.
