Training to get most out of IT

Gordon Brown should be congratulated. His pound;440 million cash injection for education will mean schools now have the opportunity to invest in the new technology they need. This will allow teachers to make an immediate impact on learning outcomes across the UK.

However, while giving schools hardware should be a priority, it is a concern that in his Budget speech the Chancellor did not mention teacher training and support. Our research shows that more than 85 per cent of teachers rated training and support top on their wish list in relation to information technology.

Equipment on its own will not raise standards in schools. Teachers need to be given tailored training in its use in order to get the most out of the technology and ensure that this welcome opportunity is not wasted.
