TEACHERS and other public-service professionals working on deprived council estates could be offered additional training under Government plans for regenerating run-down neighbourhoods.

Hilary Armstrong, local government minister, told a fringe meeting that a proposed national centre for eighbourhood renewal would provide support training at both pre- and post-qualification levels.

She was unable to provide more details, but the Department for Environment, Transport and the Regions will be publishing its national strategy for neighbourhood renewal in November.
