Treat firms and LEAs equally;Letter

I SEE that Chris Woodhead wants to give private firms "more freedom when running failing council education services" (TES, December 10)

Quite right too. If firms were judged on the same basis as local education authorities - and penalized if they fail - this could only lead to judgements being based on comparable criteria and sound evidence. How can the tone of educational debate ever be raised if comparative evidence and facts are allowed to distort decision-making?
