Apuleius’s The Golden Ass, a blockbuster from the second century AD, is now a riotous new comedy by Peter Oswald. The Shakespeare’s Globe production, with Mark Rylance as hero-turned-donkey Lucius, was one of The TES’s hot tickets over the summer: “Mixes music hall, circus and pantomime with a beautifully sung mini-opera in the middle” (TES, August 23).
