To celebrate National Tree Week (November 24 to December 5), the Tree Council is granting up to pound;700 to individual schools to enable them to plant trees in their grounds. To take part in the Trees for School Fund, schools have to submit well-planned suggestions for enhancing their environment. If you enter your school, you will need to make sure that children are directly involved and that you have taken professional advice on matching species to location. You will also want to consider aftercare (stakes or guards) and the true costs of putting trees in the earth. National Tree Week applications must be submitted between May 28 and June 30. www.treecouncil.org.uk
