An industrial tribunal has upheld a lecturer’s claim for unfair dismissal after she was made redundant from Accrington and Rossendale College.
The tribunal did not uphold Barbara Stott’s claim that she had been victimised for trade union membership, but criticised the way people were selected for redundancy. Colin Gledhill, North West regional official of NATFHE, said: “Using objective measures to decide who is least qualified to be retained is one thing; running interviews to test candidates’ creativity and composure under fire as though you were selecting new staff for a green field site is not the same thing.”
