The annual teaching support service for A-levelH-grade French has reached its eighth edition. Several of the themes have been updated for this photocopiable package and there is a Stop Press section at the end.

The tried and tested formula continues in this series, which includes sections on La Vie Culturelle, Le Tiers Monde and the region of Poitou-Charentes. Updated units cover Les Jeunes Demunis, L’immigration and Le Monde du Travail. Exercises give scope for practising all the techniques required at A-level, from gap-filling through “equivalences” to specific grammar reinforcement.

The level of difficulty gradually increases so texts become more complex, the concepts more ab-stract, or the tasks more open-ended. The listening material is well-planned, although some extracts are rather long, even for students working independently. The passage on Poitou-Charentes goes on forever.
