Truant mother jailed again

A woman who was the first parent to go to jail for allowing one of her children to play truant has been jailed again for the same offence.

Patricia Amos, 45, of Banbury, Oxfordshire, was sentenced to 28 days'

imprisonment by Bicester Magistrates Court this week for failing to make her 14-year-old daughter attend school.

Research by the National Foundation for Educational Research this year suggests that parents jailed in similar cases felt it had little effect on children's behaviour.
