Children in the West Midlands were allowed to play truant by their parents this week so they could see Concorde’s last visit to Birmingham International Airport. The airport said that about 8,000 people attended the event, on Monday afternoon, and many adults were accompanied by school-age children. Police warned the public to stay away from Heathrow today to watch Concorde’s final flights. Nearly 200,000 passengers were expected to use the airport on the first day of the half-term holiday.
