Try to give independent staff and pupils a break

What state school teachers could do to get “longer to put their feet up” at Christmas is quite simple. All they have to do is teach an hour longer each day during term time, run extracurricular activities, be willing to teach on Saturday mornings and meet incredibly high expectations. If they agreed to all this, the private sector would be delighted to have them and they would get a longer Christmas break. Hurrah.
