Coombe Dean School in Elburton, Plymouth, has been forced to stop the new turbines only months after they were installed and send off for quieter replacement blades. The turbines met determined and vociferous opposition from local residents, and the city council refused planning permission for them. However, the school later persuaded a government inspector to overturn the council’s decision. “Due to complaints about noise, the wind turbines have been shut down pending the arrival of new blades. We will continue to monitor the situation,” a Plymouth City Council spokeswoman said.
