England's shadow education secretary, Stephen Twigg, this week announced several new policies, including giving all schools more autonomy and scrapping free schools - but replacing them with similar-sounding "parent academies". "What we will have is a new academies programme including parent-led academies," he said.

I like @StephenTwigg's talk of parent academies, rolling out the London Challenge and admissions reform.

@RichardAngell

By driving up standards does Stephen Twigg mean pick and choose who they want in the schools? #disgusting #labour #wrong.

I prefer Stephen Twigg's edu vision to (Michael) Gove's (now that we've finally heard it). However, I wish he had Gove's charisma (I think). Dull speech.

Betrayed. #twiggmustgo. That is all.
