Two education action zones went into the red to meet their administration costs during their first months in operation, according to an analysis of the published accounts of five zones.
The National Union of Teachers, which conducted the study, found that an EAZ in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, spent pound;57,000 on administration in its first three months last year. The Hastings zone, in east Sussex, spent pound;33,000 in four months.
