Typing is a touchy subject

Every time I sit down at my computer to type, I curse the fact that I never learned to touch type years ago. Why we are not teaching children to type in primary school?

One obvious reason is that few primary teachers can touch type themselves. I am concerned that other people don't seem to be concerned about this. I wonder what your readers think?
