THE PARTY has dropped references to restoring student grants to 1990 levels in its outline policy document for next year’s elections, an omission that may signal a significant U-turn.
Instead, it is promising to pay the extra year’s tuition fees of students from the rest of the UK at a cost of Pounds 2 million and to “work towards” the abolition of fees. Nicola Sturgeon said the document was not the manifesto and that grants would be restored after independence.
