Ulster faces tests

Ministers have decided to press ahead with external tests for 14-year-olds in English, maths and science in Northern Ireland schools, despite a three-year boycott by the two largest teaching unions. Only half the province’s primary schools and a quarter of secondary schools have taken part in trials because of opposition by the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers and the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation.
