A popular teacher threw herself under a train after becoming severely depressed because of stress at work, an inquest heard this week.
Mother-of-three Katherine Horn, 45, had resigned as head of a PE department at Holy Trinity high school in Halifax, West Yorkshire, to take a less demanding teaching role because she was so stressed.
An inquest jury in Bradford was told that two days before she died last Mach, Mrs Horn, of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, had been prescribed anti-depressants by a doctor, who also signed her off sick for a week after the teacher told her she was stressed because she was concerned about her job security and had thought about suicide.
The jury returned a verdict that Mrs Horn, who was also going through a divorce, “killed herself while suffering from stress and depression”.
