To mark National Pet Week (April 30 to May 8), Masterfoods Education Centre has put together two websites of resources about children’s relationships with domestic animals. There are classroom activities for each year of primary school. Younger pupils can sequence a picture story about a cat or calculate how much food a rabbit needs. Older children can identify common features in human and canine skeletons, explore the meaning of words such as weaned, or discuss companionship, hygiene and owners’ responsibilities. There are also helpful plans for practical work involving real animals.
