Homework causes anxiety and domestic rows, according to an analysis of research carried out over the past 75 years. Dr Sue Hallam of London University’s Institute of Education, who looked at research from several countries, found that any educational advantage gained from home study could be outweighed by the friction between parents and children. But homework also encouraged parental involvement in children’s education, and increased pupils’ independence, the analysis found.
