More than 90 per cent of language teachers want their subject to remain compulsory for 14 to 16-year-olds, a new poll has found.
Only 6 per cent of the 240 teachers questioned for the survey, published to coincide with the Language Show, said languages should be optional. From next year pupils can drop languages at 14 as part of wider changes to allow more vocational courses. The Language Show takes place at The Novotel, Hammersmith, London on November 14 and 15.
