Sylvia O’Grady is to lead a new skills and lifelong learning team for the Scottish Trades Union Congress in a bid to further develop union-led learning.

Based at the STUC centre in Woodlands Road, Glasgow, the team is being funded by the Scottish Executive, Equal (a programme funded by the European Social Fund), and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

A spokesperson for the STUC said: “Through the skills and lifelong learning team, the STUC will ensure the trade union movement in Scotland plays a pivotal role in encouraging and supporting workers to develop their learning and skills.

“The team is developing a range of services and activities to ensure the STUC achieves this goal in conjunction with establishing the foundations of a Scottish Union Academy and supporting the Scottish Union Learning Fundproject programmes.”
