Unison on the offensive

Unison intends stepping up its campaign to secure improved status and pay for nursery nurses.

Carole Ball, the union's education convener in Glasgow, said: "We don't even have a job remit in many education authorities."

Unison is on delicate ground in examining boundaries between nursery nurses and teachers. Nurses typically earn Pounds 8,000 less for doing a similar job.

The title nursery nurse gives"a totally wrong impression", Christine McAnea, its national officer, says.
