United on City

Those seeking to weasel their way to preferment are advised to learn the following lyric by heart: "Kick off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die; On the ball, City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now's your chance, Hurrah! We've scored a goal."

Those are, of course, the words of one of the oldest football chants in the world at Norwich City FC. Their importance for the brown nosers among you are that Norwich fans are now the most influential clique in education.

Among them are not only Education Secretary Charles Clarke but private education leader Graham Able, chairman of the Headmasters' and Mistresses'

Conference. Expect some long faces around playoff time.
