* Universities should be doing more to attract people from disadvantaged backgrounds, according to a new report commissioned by university vice-chancellors.
From Elitism to Inclusion -Good Practice in Widening Access to Higher Education studies admission policies of several universities and colleges, and will be launched next week.
The report says 86 per cent of young people from the lower socio-economic groups still do not go on to university or college. The report, compiled by a team from the European Access Network based at Westminster University, was jointly commissioned by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals and other HEagencies.
