I have to inform the Government that I have failed in my statutory duty to tell the Year 6 children at my school their key stage 2 English Sats results.

On July 10, I rang Edexcel as we had not received our English scripts or marksheets. I was asked to ring the next day. On July 13, I was told they could not be found. Three days later, I was told the papers were at Edexcel’s headquarters. On July 18, I was told the papers were being despatched but the marksheets could not be faxed to me.

On July 19, I was telephoned and asked to confirm that the papers had arrived. They had not. I complained to the National Assessment Agency, which promised to investigate.

After the school had closed, we had a call from Edexcel to say that the papers were in Rotherham and that they had not been marked, despite the previous information I had received. I know we are the only school in Northamptonshire this has happened to, but I would be interested to know if other schools elsewhere have similar tales to tell. Will Ofsted believe me if I say the papers were lost and we do not have English results for 2007?
