I READ with interest Dr Nicholas Tate’s claim (TES, January 8) that Chris Woodhead’s criticisms of “unreliable” national curriculum tests were “now outdated”.

We were surprised in September when our Year 9 English test results were much lower than in previous years. A marking review led to a change in the results of 101 pupils out of 115, meaning “improved” levels for 36 pupils.
