Few subjects arouse passions like animal rights. To help direct that enthusiasm towards the powerful use of language, PREF (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Research and Education Foundation) has produced a resource pack for GCSE English. Different linguistic skills are called on: reading and analysing anewspaper article on vivisection, researching and speaking on factory farming, writing a response to zoos, and preparing a debate on hunting. The materials present both sides of the argument. The teachers’ resource pack for GCSE English is free from PREF, P O Box 24195, London SW18 4FF.
