David Perks (TES, April 18) obviously has not read the article in Managing Schools Today. The magazine ascribed wholly false, outrageous and unworthy motives to myself and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers and, presumably, their lawyers advised them to settle accordingly.
Mr Perks ought to be a little careful himself, for he begins to go down the same road in alleging that I am leading a “hunt for disruptive pupils”.
That is nonsense. The cases with which we deal are those brought to our attention by members having to cope with these extremely difficult problems.
The fact that Mr Perks named the wrong youngster in connection with Manton school is testimony to his tenuous connection with reality.
That defect is perhaps more brutally exposed by his naive assertion that simply telling children how to behave is all that is required.
