Allan Macinnes, Aberdeen University professor of history, was reported last week to have enthusiastically welcomed the appointment of Strathclyde University Professor Tom Devine to Aberdeen as “utterly seismic.”
This presumably means it rates far above other minor events on the Richter scale of transfers, such as Paul Gascoigne’s move from Glasgow Rangers to Middlesborough.
Macinnes went on to warn the Scottish history establishment that it would “have to learn to cope with a four-letter word, fear, when discussing Aberdeen University”.
Other examples of over the top comments on the educational transfer market will be gratefully received, and earn the utterly seismic accolade of public recognition on this very page.
