The possibilities are much increased if a single large space can be used for a range of purposes, with the aid of portable furniture and demountable staging.
One firm experienced in this area is Stage Systems, the makers of Q-Build and Q-Plus modular portable staging. Now they have added a new product - IQ - which extends the concept so that it is possible to convert a room into a lecture theatre of conventional appearance with a podium at the front and alternate rows of benches and writing desks rising in tiers. The lecture theatre benches can be either plain or upholstered.
The same equipment could then be used to change the room into a drama studio with a flat or split-level stage and tiered audience seating. It could even be used to create a refectory with dining tables and bench seating.
The system is basically tubular frames and flat wooden panels, easily handled by school maintenance staff and cleverly designed to pack down and store in a relatively small space using purpose-built trolleys.
