THE head of a Roman Catholic primary wants voluntary-aided schools to be exempted from VAT on building projects. Peter Cunningham, head of Sacred Heart primary in Lancashire, spoke out after a foundation school recovered its VAT. Voluntary-aided schools are liable for VAT on 10 per cent of capital projects. Mr Cunningham said: “Exempting all schools from this tax would take out a whole tier of needless bureaucracy.”
