The Six are instrumental teachers, seen for five or 10 minutes each. They talk about their work and their pupils talk about them. This is not meant to be an instructional video, but an inspiring one, designed to “encourage and enthuse”. Certainly the teachers exude enthusiasm and energy as they work with groups of all ages. There are brass, recorders, strings, clarinets, keyboards and an adult choir, and steel drums.

How much viewers will get out of it is debatable: they can certainly observe how positive and supportive these teachers are, and how sensitive to the needs and abilities of their pupils. They will note the approving observation from students that their teachers do not get angry. They may be impressed by the quality of improvisation encouraged. Those who favour one-to-one teaching may be interested in the evident effectiveness of group work. (They may also consider wistfully the comfortable middle-class circumstances in which a lot of these teachers are working.) There will be those who find it inspiring. But others may wonder if a 55-minute video of other people doing what they already do themselves, and saying what they know, constitutes pound;15 well spent.
