Voice of equality

Like Lucy Hodges, I believe that girls and boys should have equal opportunities to sing fine music at a high standard, in cathedral choirs and elsewhere.

I read her article (TES, December 29) with great interest, and then re-read it, because what is missing is any evidence, let alone proof, to support the headline allegation that the reason for the paucity of girls in English cathedral choirs is even, let alone just, the matter of 1,000 years of tradition.

I could wish, however, that she would also address herself to what is to me a far greater problem: the lack of opportunity for boys to sing fine music at a high standard other than in a cathedral choir.
