Families, friends and the media play a large role in the lives of most teenagers. Influences is a combined video and teacher’s pack that explores their contemporary power - families as support and trap, friends as source of loyalty and temptation, the media as proponents of image and reality. The best sections are the series of vox pops in school and on the street, where comment from young Londoners is frank and plausible. The notes for teachers supply helpful and detailed lesson plans. The overall philosophy of the pack is Christian, but the religious touch is unobtrusive. Influences is produced by the XL Project. It costs pound;20 plus pound;2 pamp;p from Ichthus Media Services, 118a Perry Vale, London SE23 2LQ. Tel: 020 8699 4208. Further information on the XL Project from Unit 6, 9 Gowlett Road, London SE15 4HX. Tel: 020 7277 9726; fax: 020 7732 5304; email: info@xlp.org.uk
