Mike Tomlinson, head of school inspection at the Office for Standards in Education, is quoted as saying: “I do not give a monkey’s toss for the teachers” (TES, February 7).

Is he totally careless of the appalling vulgarity he indulges in? He, presumably, acts as an example for the registered inspectors and their teams. We can now expect their conversations with, and reports on, headteachers and teachers to be conducted in the same crude, barrack-room language. The vulgar bully hardly seems to be the exemplar that education needs .

At least he has done us the favour of displaying the standards that OFSTED espouses - those of the schoolyard yob.
