The big issues surrounding the disposal of radioactive waste have inspired a fascinating website for schools.

The RADwaste project, aimed at key stage 3 and 4 geography pupils, provides a wealth of materials for lessons, with the emphasis on debate and decision making.

Classes are encouraged to debate the future plans for nuclear power station expansion and learn about nuclear power and its consequences.

Pupils must consider all points of view in the debate, and hone their speech making and discussion skills.

The project, from the London Grid for Learning, was launched yesterday and is already online.

It has been successfully piloted in three London schools.
